Special Needs

There are times when an animal comes to us with special needs, or other times they develop problems while they're with us.  These cases present a real problem for us financially and logistically.  Treatment for heart worms, for example, costs hundreds of dollars.  We took in Roxy, a sweet little Corgi mix who had been hit by a car.  Her treatment ran into the thousands of dollars, and her care involved several devoted foster volunteers willing to nurse her through the long recovery period.  When cases like this arise this is where we'll tell you about them.

Pepper

This is Pepper

Pepper was found in a ditch in Hampstead.  He is a 12 or 18-month old pitbull  who weighs 40 lbs.

He is blind but sees shadows.  He is house-trained and loves all people.  When introduced slowly to other

dogs he gets along with them.  He is heartworm positive, but fortunately he has a generous sponsor

who is paying for that.  Pepper is doing well with his treatment and seems very content in his private space at the shelter.

He still needs to see an eye specialist to determine if there is something that might help him.  Please help this sweet boy if you can!
