Pender County Humane Society is Hiring!

Do you get along better with your pets than people?

Calling all animal lovers looking for part-time employment! The Pender County Humane Society (PCHS), a 501(c)3 no-kill animal shelter, is in need of workers to continue to provide a safe, clean, healthy environment for our furry friends until they can find their forever homes. The shelter needs part-time workers who can help feed the animals, walk the dogs, and clean the dog kennels and litter boxes. 

We also need help with basic chores such as loading and unloading supplies from our van, sweeping and mopping floors, etc. Most importantly, we are looking for people who have a soft spot for dogs and cats, and who are willing to jump in and help with their many needs.  

We are looking for part-time employees age 16 and up. Shifts include weekday afternoons 4 PM – 6 PM and weekend shifts 9 AM – 5 PM.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Clean and disinfect all animal areas as necessary to maintain them in a safe and sanitary environment.
  • Socialize and comfort the animals, while practicing safe approach and handling techniques.
  • Perform light maintenance and other janitorial duties.
  • Unload, store and restock supplies.
  • Provide assistance to others as assigned.
  • Help in walking dogs.
  • Help in care/cleaning of cats.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to ensure a positive public image and to enhance the operation of the organization and improve the quality of life for animals.

 

Qualifications:

  • Basic knowledge of and compassion for animals.
  • Good communication skills, both written and oral.
  • Ability to routinely lift and carry 50 pounds.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Capable of working both independently and as a member of a team.
